The Public Collection is a new public art and literacy project aiming to increase access to books and art. The project has been developed by Rachel M. Simon to improve literacy, foster a deeper appreciation of the arts, and raise awareness for educational justice in our community.
Indiana-based artists are in the process of installing eight unique book share stations—lending libraries—in public spaces around Indianapolis. Each book share station will hold a varied selection of books for diverse audiences and age groups. The Public Collection stations are free and available to everyone. Passersby will be able to borrow and return books at their leisure.
Present for the launch will be:
• Rachel M. Simon
• Brian Payne, President and CEO of CICF
• Jackie Nytes, CEO of Indianapolis Public Library
• Mindy Taylor Ross of Art Strategies
• Artist Stuart Hyatt, creator of Table of Contents at Horizon House
• Teresa Wessel, Executive Director of Horizon House
