The Public Collection – Launch Event
The Public Collection is a new public art and literacy project aiming to increase access to books and art. The project has been developed by Rachel M. Simon to improve literacy, foster a deeper appreciation of the arts, and raise awareness for educational justice in our community. Indiana-based artists are in the process of installing eight unique book share stations—lending libraries—in public spaces around Indianapolis. Eric Salazar is a performer, collaborator, educator, and innovator. He has been described by his peers as a "super-human clarinet hero." He holds a B.M. in Clarinet Performance from Ball State University and an M.M. in Clarinet Performance from Bowling Green State University. “Just about everything a leading man with a mighty voice should be.” –New York Times Tony nominee, Norm Lewis, presents an evening dedicated to the way-paving singers and songwriters who inspire him. Lewis has starred in Broadway’s The Gershwin’s’ Porgy and Bess, the 25th anniversary staging of Les Misérables, the original cast of Side Show, The Little Mermaid, Chicago, Sondheim on Sondheim and was the first African American to play in the starring role of The Phantom of the Opera.

SPARK hosted over 10,000 visitors who made 2,000 Taylor Swift-themed postcards created by local artists that will be mailed around the world for free, made hundreds of bracelets, got their faces painted, participated in Mary Jo Bayliss’ @andknits’s collaborative art project, enjoyed local music, and more all weekend long.
