Filmmaker Bill Morrison sourced rotted, melted, scratched-up 35mm nitrate film footage of World War I trainings, deployments and marches and set it to a haunting soundtrack of strings performed by the Kronos Quartet. The original film material is itself a veteran of the war, never to be seen again outside of this film. SPARK hosted over 10,000 visitors who made 2,000 Taylor Swift-themed postcards created by local artists that will be mailed around the world for free, made hundreds of bracelets, got their faces painted, participated in Mary Jo Bayliss’ @andknits’s collaborative art project, enjoyed local music, and more all weekend long.
