White Cane Safety Day

October 15 @ 12:00 pm - 1:30 pm

Governor Holcomb has signed a proclamation to declare October 15, 2023, as White Cane Safety Day. This acknowledges the importance of the safety of individuals who are blind or visually impaired while traveling and is nationally recognized as an instrument of independence. Click here to read the proclamation.

The National Federation of the Blind celebrates White Cane Awareness Day every year on October 15.

For blind people, the white cane is an essential tool that gives us the ability to achieve a full and independent life. It allows us to move freely and safely from place to place—whether it’s at work, at school, or around our neighborhoods.

We at Big Car are teaming up with Downtown Indy and the City of Indianapolis — with support from the Capital Improvement Board and the Indiana War Memorials Commission— to spark Monument Circle with human-scale activities like games, live music, artmaking, and socializing in a comfortable place.
