DESCRIPTION:Look Again: Scavenger Hunt \nLook Again is the artist’s observation of local edible flora. Reliance on industrial modes of production has left individuals environmentally disconnected and disempowered. When familiarity with native plants and animals is not culturally valued or necessary\, we forget how to live without grocers and foreclose our imaginations to any alternatives. Nature remains abstract when we do not investigate our material surroundings\, we do not recognize our world when we look at it. \nFor the majority of Fukushima’s life\, they had little connection to nature. To reorient themself\, they have begun to study foraging. They collect wild foods as well as materials to create handmade paints. Fukushima has created this series of botanical vignettes to address their own environmental illiteracy and uses painting as a tactile approach to learning. SPARK visitors are invited to search the park to view each piece. The native plants featured are edible or have medicinal use. \n
