SUMMARY:Circle Side Chats with Jeannie Regan-Dinius
DESCRIPTION:A Grave Matter in Indiana: Cemeteries and Hoosiers \nPresenter: Jeannie Regan-Dinius \nTalk Description: Before most of any city was developed\, the first thing our pioneers established was burial grounds.  Whether a family site\, religious based\, or community focused these essential spaces evolved in importance\, design\, and use. This Spark will explore the city’s relationship with these places. \nBio: Jeannie R. Regan-Dinius\, Director of Special Initiatives\, has a life-long interest in history\, family history\, and research. She earned her Bachelors in Public History from Ball State University\, where she studied also anthropology and American Studies. She has her Masters in Urban Planning and Information Management/Library Science from Indiana University-Purdue University at Indianapolis. \nShe is the Director of Historic Preservation for the Crown Hill Heritage Foundation\, a role she started in 2022. Before that\, she worked as the Cemetery and Burial Ground Registry Coordinator for the State of Indiana. Jeannie has served on the board of directors for the Indiana Women’s History Association\, the Indiana Historical Society\, and the Association of Indiana Museums. \nCircle Side Chats is in partnership with Indiana Humanities. Indiana Humanities is a statewide nonprofit that infuses the humanities into our daily lives. We do this by providing grants\, convening discussions\, uplifting humanities scholars\, spotlighting humanities organizations and activities\, and creating our own programs that help Hoosiers think\, read and talk. \n \n

SUMMARY:Bollywood & Tai Chi with Indy Movement
DESCRIPTION:Bollywood with Usha Sirimalle | September 14th\, 4-5pm\n\nUsing a creative mix of technique\, energy\, and emotion\, but most of all massive fun\, Usha will teach participants poses\, grace\, hand and foot movements and expressions. These are all key elements of Bollywood dance\, which allows participants to explore the meanings of songs and dance and act them out. \nBollywood is an upbeat fusion dance class that showcases traditional Indian Dance (Bhangra)\, and classical and modern (influenced by Hip Hop and salsa) movement. It is one of the most lively\, vibrant and rhythmic dance styles. \n \nTai Chi with Dustin McCreery | September 14th\, 5-6pm \nTai Chi Chuan (Taijiquan) is a moving meditation and martial art that embodies the principle of yin/yang. Done slowly\, Taiji students find themselves entering a calm state of coordinated movement. Done quickly\, the movement can be adapted to a martial context. Taiji students often refer to themselves as players rather than practitioners\, because whether doing the solo slow form or two person games such as “push hands”\, students stir a curiosity and a playfulness that offers bodily insight. In this class participants will practice the solo form\, which is a set of postures with an emphasis on the essence of Taijiquan\, meditative movement. \n\n
